Discipleship Training School (DTS) offers you an intentional season to go deeper in your relationship with God, to be personally transformed by His incredible love, and to learn more about His heart for the whole world.
God is alive and active and He is inviting you to join Him in His redemptive work. Find your place in God’s story and begin the journey of a lifetime!
The Discipleship Training School is a Christian program with a missions focus. The course encompasses 12 weeks of classroom lectures followed by a 9 week international outreach. DTS is designed to encourage you in personal character development, help you cultivate an active relationship with God, and assist you in identifying your unique gifts and calling.
As part of your DTS, you can choose your elective. You’ll be spending a few hours each week exploring how your giftings and passions can be used in partnership with God.
We run DTS three times a year with quarters starting in January, July and September. Each quarter offers the following electives:
Do you want to engage with God in a way that makes a difference in the world? Do you want to serve others but just aren’t quite sure what your ‘calling’ might be? Our Emerge elective enables you to find your place in the broader scope of what God is doing across the earth.
Who knows what personal gifts might emerge as you step out and join God in His work among the nations!

Sport bypasses barriers and builds community beyond differences of language or background. You’ll learn how to use sport as a way to build relationships with your wider community, both in Australia and on outreach.
Our Sports elective gives you some extra time each week to get active with your DTS team. With playing fields, basketball courts, an Olympic sized swimming pool and beach within walking distance, there’s no shortage of possibilities.

Where is God in our suffering? The Justice & Mercy elective is for those who see the brokenness in our world and recognise the need for a response that truly reflects the heart of a loving God.
Throughout the school you’ll explore how to process loss and grief, develop a working understanding of trauma and healing with hope, gain a broader perspective on injustice and, most importantly, discover who God is in the midst of it all.

Whether you’re into photography, music, writing—or another creative expression—our Media elective helps you build a framework for hope-filled communication.
You’ll have the opportunity to work with our Mobilisation Team, who create all kinds of content, from websites to Instagram posts to missions documentaries.

War, racism, and seemingly endless cycles of violence seem to be all we see on the news these days. But can love grow where there is hate?
Our Peacemakers elective gives space to discover how God is at work in this messy world – and how you can be part of His redemption plan. You’ll hear stories of deep pain being transformed into great hope, as well as learn how to take God’s message of reconciliation into the bleakest of circumstances.

God loves the energy and passion of youth, and He’s looking for a generation that will join in with the incredible plans He has for the whole world.
This elective is for those who want to work with young people and see them impacted by God’s love. You’ll have the opportunity to work with our Mission Adventures team, which partners with local schools and youth groups in our area.

The first phase of DTS provides classroom learning, community bonding, and a chance to encounter God in a new way. Each week, a new guest speaker will offer teaching that will provoke, challenge, and encourage you.
Outreach is your time to apply what you’ve learned in a cross-cultural setting. You’ll get to experience firsthand how God wants to work through you and get a glimpse of what a life in missions could look like.
Vibrant cultures, crazy traffic, and adventurous food- we go to some amazing places! Our overseas outreach locations vary but always focus on sharing God’s love with those who need it most. There are countless people who are ready to hear the good news of Jesus!
Opportunities to serve will vary, but could involve any or all of the following: sharing your faith with others, partnering with local churches, music, sports, drama, prayer, teaching English, basic health care, youth/kids ministry and more.
This Discipleship Training School is offered as an accredited course recognised by the Australian Qualifications Framework and is registered as Certificate III in Discipleship (code 10802NAT). More information on how we facilitate training is available in the Student Handbook.
